Our School was founded in January 2006 in the capital of Liberia, Monrovia. Our goal is to build a school for underprivileged children, who do not have the financial means to get an education.
After 14 years of civil war, Liberia has become one of the poorest countries worldwide. Therefore, education is a luxury that most Liberians will never benefit from. Instead of focusing on which elementary school is the best, what middle school might have more after school sports, or what highschool offers cutting edge college-prep courses, Liberians fight a daily battle to find food that will feed family members; of constantly looking for ways to pay for medical care. Because priorities in Liberia are so different and basic, children are sent by their families to sell items at market, instead of having the opportunity to go to school; an opportunity that is more often than not, taken for granted by children and adults all over the world.
Our School, will give Liberian children who would otherwise have no way to get an education, the opportunity of a lifetime. After all, with this education, these kids will finally have a chance at a promising future and a fulfilling life.
Vision
The limitations of poverty that are regularly imposed upon children in war-torn countries like Liberia deny them the opportunity to reach their full potential, and at the same time, inhibit the adult world from seeing exactly what these kids are capable of achieving. more...
